Effective Sept 30, 2018, John Calvert has stepped down as Executive Director of the UIA.  John has played a critical role in the development and success of the organization, and we wish him the best of luck as he pursues additional inventor education opportunities. Luckily, John will continue to represent the UIA in the international invention area by serving on the International Federation of Inventor Organizations (IFIA) Executive Committee.

We want to thank him for his four years of dedicated service as Executive Director, which involved many significant accomplishments and thank him for continuing to represent us on the international front.

John has prepared the following for us to share with our members.

September 2018

Dear UIA Members:

For the past four years I have served as Executive Director of the UIA.  After retiring from the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2014, I joined the UIA and worked to increase educational information, access to markets and have been an advocate for inventors both before Congress and to the Courts.

As many of you know I have spent the past 20 years assisting the inventor community and continue to do so. Recently I provided my resignation as Executive Director of the UIA to the Board of Directors so that I can concentrate on new areas of interest.

I plan to continue to serve the inventor community by working as an Adjunct Professor teaching Intellectual Property Strategies for the 21st Century. I am also going to be working with a small group of mentors in my local community assisting entrepreneurs in how to best protect their intellectual property.

I will also be representing the UIA in the international invention area by serving on the International Federation of Inventor Organizations (IFIA) Executive Committee. IFIA helps sponsor both national and international inventor fairs. As I become aware of these events I will be passing the information on to the UIA.

I hope that each of you have gained valuable information during my time as Executive Director and will continue to move forward in your inventive efforts.  I wish the UIA well and best of success for the new Executive Director of the UIA.

Sincerely,

John J Calvert

On behalf of the UIA Board, team and inventors alike, we cannot thank John enough for the dedication, passion, and enthusiasm as our Executive Director.
