Inventor Success Story: Aisha McCain — From Survivor to Innovator

Posted On:Oct 24, 2025

This October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the United Inventors Association proudly highlights the inspiring story of Aisha Mccain, Founder and CEO of Casual Recovery Enterprises: a MedTech company focused on improving patient care, comfort, and dignity.

Aisha is a three-time cancer survivor who turned her personal challenges into purpose-driven innovation. After enduring 14 surgeries and struggling with uncomfortable post-surgical drains, she created DrainCare Wear: a post-surgical garment that’s FDA-registered, utility patented, and covered by medical insurance. Designed to restore comfort and dignity to patients, Drain Care Wear addresses a real problem Aisha experienced firsthand when a surgical complication led to seven interventional radiology visits and over $64,000 in medical costs.

What started as a personal solution quickly evolved into a mission. Encouraged by her surgeon at UCSF, who conducted a successful study of Drain Care Wear on 30 patients, Aisha realized she had truly become an inventor. “It found me,” she says, “the calling to create solutions that save lives and restore dignity was undeniable.”

Her journey didn’t stop there. Under Casual Recovery Enterprises, Aisha is developing additional medical innovations, including respiratory care and life-saving devices after her sister unfortunately passed away from an asthma attack, and continues to expand her patent portfolio with eight patents and fourteen pending. She’s also raising a pre-seed investment round after completing a friends and family round to scale her company and bring more products to patients who need them most.

Beyond medical devices, Aisha’s creativity shines through her upcoming children’s book series, Young Superheroes: Kindness Is Cool:  a project inspired by her desire to empower the next generation with empathy and resilience.

Her standout moment came when she received international recognition at the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF). “I looked around at people inventing cures for cancer and realized — I belong here,” she recalls.

These awards included a Special Award from the Filipino Inventors Society Incorporated (FIS), a Prize of the Institute of Innovation Research and Attribute Verification (RIVA), and a Gold Award from the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF)

Aisha’s advice for inventors is as powerful as her story:

“Just because people don’t see your vision doesn’t mean it’s not awesome. Don’t let anyone stop you from what you believe in. Life is meant to be lived — so find joy and keep going.”

Aisha’s journey reminds us that innovation often begins with empathy — and that strength, creativity, and purpose can turn pain into progress.
